Madison Railroad operates a 25-mile mainline extending from Madison to North Vernon, Indiana. Daily train service is available and interchange is accomplished with CSX Transportation at North Vernon. In addition to the mainline railroad, the Madison Railroad owns and operates 17 miles of railroad track within a 3,400-acre industrial park, offering a team track and railcar storage facilities.
As a shortline, Madison Railroad provides flexible service. Madison Railroad hauls a variety of commodities, including polyethylene, coal by-products and steel. Railroad headquarters are located in a 3,400 acre industrial park, formerly known as Jefferson Proving Ground. Madison Railroad is dedicated to working with the business community to enhance industrial and economic development throughout our region. We understand economic development initiatives and complexities and work closely with the Economic Development Partners or EDP to attract industry to the area. A number of rail-served sites are still available.
Madison Railroad has an estimated 10 miles of track for car storage use on a short or long term basis. The railroad's car storage facility is located at the former military base and offers a secure area for the safety of your rail cars, as well as being easily accessible for inspections.
A common dock area is available for utilization by companies without direct rail service.
Line hauls are predominately polythylene, steel coils and scrap.
