Rail logistics solution provider RSI Logistics, Inc., announced on Sept. 8 that it is partnering with Madison Railroad on a marketing campaign to promote the railroad’s new 22-acre rail-to-truck transload facility, which the railroad purchased in June and that RSI Logistics, Inc. will be operating.

"According to Madison Railroad, a short line railroad operated by the City of Madison that runs a 22.7-mile mainline between Madison and North Vernon, Ind., this multi-purpose facility will be “the first in the region to provide businesses who do not have direct rail service the opportunity to combine use of the highly efficient rail network for long-haul shipments with local trucking services to deliver freight that last mile.”

According to RSI Logistics, Inc., benefits of this new partnership include.

  • Decreased volatility and improved supply chains for local suppliers and shippers.

  • Expansion of transloading services to a market that will provide a myriad of opportunities.

  • Combination of experience and knowledge from both organizations that will allow for increased operational success.

“Madison Railroad is excited to partner with RSI Logistics to offer our customers a world-class supply chain product here in Madison,” said Madison Railroad General Manager Adam Robillard. “For a region that has traditionally been underserved by rail, this will combine the Madison Railroad’s commitment to local development with RSI’s industry-leading supply-chain and inventory management experience. This partnership builds upon the Madison Railroad’s recent acquisition of a new 22-acre transload site along with our vision of growth through investment, modernization and leadership. Our team is thrilled to be able to offer our customers the combined efficiencies of rail, inventory management, transloading and trucking all in one unique product,” added Robillard.

“We are excited to work with the Madison Railroad team to help develop their Madison, Ind., transload site, said RSI Logistics, Inc., Vice President Kelley Minnehan. “This is an area that is seeing a consistent demand and we look forward to adding value to Madison Railroad’s growth. The Madison Railroad, in partnership with the City of Madison, is pleased to announce the purchase of 22 acres in the heart of Madison, Indiana's industrial park to construct a brand-new rail-to-truck transload facility. This multi-purpose facility will be the first in the region to provide businesses who do not have direct rail service the opportunity to combine use of the highly efficient rail network for long-haul shipments with local trucking services to deliver freight that last mile.

The existing 2,300' long railroad spur on site can be utilized in various ways to transfer bulk products manufactured across North America and shipped by rail directly into our market where those products are used. Commodities such as steel, plastic resins, agricultural products, and lumber are commonly shipped in this way from the manufactures due to rail's heavy capacity and vast distribution network. Shipping a ton of freight by rail is 4x more fuel efficient than shipping that same ton utilizing over-the-road trucking. On-site material storage space provides additional capacity to store and distribute products efficiently.
